Fall Adventures

We have done many fun things these past two months. In November, we learned about characteristics of shapes. We used Twizzlers to outline 2D shapes. We then used 3D shapes to create houses, towers, etc.

Making signs for our Pilgrim and Wampanoag unit.

We worked with a partner to read an article, infer, and answer questions about it.

We Wish You a Beary-Merry Christmas!

We have started learning about Christmas traditions around the world. On Friday we celebrated St. Lucia day, a Swedish tradition. The oldest girl in the family dresses up in white, wears a red sash, and a wreath with candles on her head to serve breakfast.

Amish Acres

This past week we have been learning about story elements. Today we read a story and then drew a picture of two characters from the book.

Amish Acres

We enjoyed our field trip to Amish Acres! While there we learned how the Amish live, how to make apple cider, helped make apple butter, and visited an old farmhouse and schoolhouse.

We did some apple activities at the end of September. Below are pictures of a craft we made. We showed what apple trees look like in the different seasons. We also made a graph showing how many students enjoyed apple cider or apple juice. Students helped make applesauce and wrote a paper about the different steps needed to make applesauce.

September Adventures

We have been doing a lot of things to help enrich the lives of others. Earlier this month we made cards to send to Veterans, thanking them for their service.

We also brainstormed ways to help raise money for the Feed My Starving Children challenge that is going on in Warsaw. A lot of the students came up with having a lemonade stand or selling something to raise money. Our class teamed up with Miss Rozsa's class (our fourth grade reading buddies) to sell popcorn and water at a soccer and volleyball game. Unfortunately it was raining, but we were still able to raise $196.83! That is 894 meals for kids that would otherwise not have food. I was so impressed with the students' initiative and dedication to helping this event happen. Many thanks to the parents who donated water bottles, their time driving students, and volunteering. We could not have done it without you. Thank you!

We have continued to work on number bonds and addition. It is important for students to understand addition because later this year we will be working on addition with regrouping. We made number bonds on the floor and practiced figuring out what two numbers we needed to match the whole number.
