September Adventures

We have been doing a lot of things to help enrich the lives of others. Earlier this month we made cards to send to Veterans, thanking them for their service.

We also brainstormed ways to help raise money for the Feed My Starving Children challenge that is going on in Warsaw. A lot of the students came up with having a lemonade stand or selling something to raise money. Our class teamed up with Miss Rozsa's class (our fourth grade reading buddies) to sell popcorn and water at a soccer and volleyball game. Unfortunately it was raining, but we were still able to raise $196.83! That is 894 meals for kids that would otherwise not have food. I was so impressed with the students' initiative and dedication to helping this event happen. Many thanks to the parents who donated water bottles, their time driving students, and volunteering. We could not have done it without you. Thank you!

We have continued to work on number bonds and addition. It is important for students to understand addition because later this year we will be working on addition with regrouping. We made number bonds on the floor and practiced figuring out what two numbers we needed to match the whole number.

First Grade

We have been enjoying to get to know our reading buddies (Miss Rozsa's fourth grade class). We meet with them once a week to practice reading.

This past week we worked on our reading stamina by reading with partners. We are up to 13 minutes of independent reading time!

We have been learning about living and nonliving things in science. Last week we went outside to record what living and nonliving things we saw. The students used their science journals and came up with a long list!
