Mr. Heckert came to talk to the first grade classes about worms. We learned about a worm's life, what they eat, and how they help the environment. Students had the chance to examine worms close up. We also have a worm bin in our classroom now! We started out with 50 worms and will release them outside at the end of the year to help the plants at school. Throughout the semester we will take our worms out and observe them while taking notes in our science journals.
The students also had fun eating gummy worms at the end of the presentation!
We have been learning about making connections and inferring while we read. To help us infer, we received mystery mail from staff around the school. The staff members included three items that might help students infer who they were. One of the teachers sent a book with her letter. Students inferred that the person who sent the letter must like to read and could be a librarian. While talking about connecting what we read with our lives, we completed puzzles that had sentences on them and wrote about how the sentences made us feel.
Eisenhower had a fiddle group come visit today! Crossbow is a group of college students who play Irish music. The students enjoyed watching them perform. We also had the opportunity to have a question and answer time with them. I was very impressed with all of the questions the students asked! Be sure to ask your child what he or she enjoyed the most about the performance.
