Poems

We have been learning about poetry the past couple of weeks. The students worked on color poems and I thought it would be fun to share a couple of the poems they wrote.

Gray by Mason S.
Gray is as booming as thunder clouds.
Gray is stone and metal and the feeling of shining iron.
Gray is silver, charcoal, and smokey.
Gray is the taste of burning smoke.
Sparks and stormy days smell gray.
Someone who passed makes me feel gray.
Gray is the sound of a metal tray dropping on the floor and the sound of rain.
Dark clouds and haunted houses are gray.
Gray is spectacular.

Dark Night by Sydney C.
Black is as evil as a unlit sky.
Black is the long night and thieving raccoons and the feeling of hardness and despair.
Black is ebony, jet, and inky.
Black is the taste of overcooked meat.
Rotten fish and burning rubber smell black.
Sadness and anger makes me feel black.
Black is the sound of cold evil laughs and screams of fear.
Alleyways and the scene of a crime are black.
Black is the cruelest of them all.

Yellow Sunset by Olivia E.
Yellow is as sweet as yummy bananas.
Yellow is meeting Goofy at Disney and squeaky pencils and the feeling of a fuzzy honey bear.
Yellow is lemon, amber, and gold.
Yellow is the taste of sweet popcorn.
Glue and a bright spring day smell yellow.
Being happy makes me feel yellow.
Yellow is the sound of a beautiful bee and a bright bell.
California and Nevada are yellow.
Yellow is powerful.

Red Ruby by Ella S.
Red is as loud as a fire engine.
Red is harsh thorns and roses and the feeling of a rough bush.
Red is scarlet, sapphire, and ruby.
Red is the taste of sour strawberries.
Apple pie and juice smell red.
Anger makes me feel red.
Red is the sound of a door slamming and thunderstorm.
Tomatoes and cherries are red.
Red is the flowers across the meadow.

White Paper Snow by Jazmyn T.
White is as flat as a paper.
White is sparkling snow and paper airplanes and the feeling of wet glue.
White is chalky, bleached, and plain.
White is the taste of a marshmallow.
White flowers and snow smell white.
Joyfulness makes me feel white.
White is the sound of paper and a blizzard.
Home and whiteboards are white.
White is light.

Yellow Sun by Rory H.
Yellow is as bright as the sun.
Yellow is sweet bananas and sour lemons and the feeling of playing with a puppy.
Yellow is lemon, gold, and blonde.
Yellow is the taste of creamy cheese.
Buttercups and popcorn smell yellow.
Joyfulness makes me feel yellow.
Yellow is the sound of a bumble bee and a duck.
A pencil and a ruler are yellow.
Yellow is a shooting star.
